The establishment of the League of Nations after World War I, and later the United Nations after World War II, were significant milestones in the development of internationalism.

    Internationalism also played a key role in the decolonization movements of the mid-20th century. Many anti-colonial activists and leaders saw internationalism as a way to challenge the power of colonial empires and promote the rights and independence of colonized peoples.

    In recent years, internationalism has been associated with efforts to address global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and human rights abuses. It is seen as a way to promote global solidarity and cooperation in the face of these challenges. However, it has also been criticized by those who argue that it undermines national sovereignty and fails to take into account the unique cultures and interests of individual nations. Despite these criticisms, internationalism remains a significant and influential political ideology in the 21st century.
